Proscia Raises $50M To Advance AI-Driven Pathology And Deliver The Future Of Precision MedicineREAD THE PR

Net Zero Emissions Statement for Proscia Inc.

At Proscia Inc., we are committed to contributing to global climate action by achieving net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. We are a software manufacturer with a majority remote workforce and a minimal physical footprint; however, we recognize our responsibility to reduce our environmental impact.

Our Operations and Impact

  • Digital Pathology: Reducing Emissions from Global Slide Transportation. Our core business, digital pathology positively impacts the environment by eliminating the need to physically ship glass slides across the globe, significantly reducing transportation-related carbon emissions and contributing to a more sustainable healthcare system.
  • Remote-First Workforce: With all of our international workforce (including 3 UK-based employees) working remotely and a globally distributed team, we significantly reduce emissions from daily commuting and office operations.
  • Sustainable Headquarters: Our headquarters in Philadelphia, USA, is located in a WELL-certified and LEED-certified building, demonstrating our commitment to employee well-being and environmental sustainability through energy efficiency, air and water quality, and other wellness-focused design features.
  • Cloud-Based Infrastructure: We partner with cloud providers committed to renewable energy and carbon-neutral operations for both our internal operations and to provide our cloud-based digital pathology and precision medicine solutions to our customers. Primarily, we partner with AWS, in part because of their comprehensive environmental sustainability program and standards.

Our Net Zero Commitment

We pledge to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 through the following actions:

  • Reducing Operational Emissions: Maintaining a primarily remote workforce policy to minimize commuting emissions and implementing energy-efficient digital operations. Any incremental increase in our physical office locations will be in sustainable LEED-certified buildings or will otherwise implement our net-zero carbon plan.
  • Sustainable Energy Use: Ensuring our Philadelphia headquarters continues to use renewable energy and meets WELL and LEED standards for efficiency and environmental impact.
  • Green Partnerships: Collaborating with cloud, software, and service providers with strong environmental commitments.
  • Carbon Offsetting: Investing in credible carbon offset projects to neutralize unavoidable emissions.

Alignment with UK Reporting Requirements

Although Proscia Inc. is not currently required to report under the UK’s Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) framework or Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) due to our size and remote operations, we voluntarily align with these frameworks to promote transparency and accountability.

Voluntary Reporting Practices (to be implemented in 2025):

  • Measuring Emissions: Annually calculate Scope 1 (direct), Scope 2 (indirect from purchased energy), and Scope 3 (indirect from activities such as remote working) emissions.
  • Setting Reduction Targets: Develop science-based targets for reducing emissions across all scopes.
  • Transparent Disclosures: Publish annual progress reports on emissions, energy use, and sustainability initiatives.

Climate Transition Strategy:

  • Governance: Define clear leadership roles for climate action and sustainability oversight.
  • Risk Management: Identify and manage climate-related risks, including digital infrastructure resilience.
  • Metrics and Targets: Track progress with clear KPIs and update targets annually, beginning in 2025.

Long-Term Goals:

  • Maintain 100% renewable energy sourcing for our Philadelphia headquarters.
  • Promote sustainable remote working practices for our entire global team.
  • Continue to align with SECR and TCFD standards and adjust reporting if UK thresholds are met.
  • Uphold WELL standards for employee health and sustainability at our headquarters.

Proscia Inc. is proud to leverage technology for a more sustainable world while fostering a healthy, eco-conscious workplace.
